Keeping commentary/thought notes while I watch with
duckynapper aka Jenn. Totally spoiler-full!
-Nathan totally obvious about not wanting Thorne there- well played! Watching Ed is so much fun, and he and Fisher seem like they're going to have some great runs this season! Looking forward to it!
-I know they need the product placement revenue, but god I hope they get more relevant sponsors! Degree just bugs me because it's so NOT Eureka.
-Bob Knob.... snorfle!
-Mars missions! Okay, just makes me happy to think that SOMEONE is going! In grade school, they led me to believe I could be living there now.
-Still not sold on the new/reduced into, but if it gives us about 20 seconds more of story, I'll learn to like it.
-Totally thinking "uh, should she be owning up to thinking about nekid time?" just before Carter asks- love when it hits the beat that way.
-"I had no idea you cared that much about Sheriff Carter".... Holy Cow, WIN! Eva Thorne is totally my secret Stark/Carter shipper, probably the source of all my tags, I really am loving her!
-Terri.... wow, first impression is a little creepy.
-"That's how we bonded"... awesome Vince and Fargo backstory in this scene for someone to mine.
-Eew, yes, Carter touch the slimy stuff without knowing what it is... I always object to him never learning that lesson! Two plus years in Eureka, he's gotta figure it out eventually, he isn't stupid!
-ZANE doing a commercial??! Look, I don't like the character much anyway (he had so much potential and hasn't hit that high starting point again to date) and making him the face of product placement... oh, so not going to be able to like him, ever, even if I want to now! ...There's a product placement rant coming somewhere this season, just a heads up. I get the need, I like the pokeing fun at it nature, but it's flirting awfully close to the line of "too much" already.
-Thorne/Jo... this could get interesting. Also, Jenn adds 'what's she really after, library or museum?' I'm thinking museum, since she's closing it altogether- shut off access?
-"Watching clouds" totally adopted as a new euphemism... love it!
-Whoa, Nathan asking after Carter... he's supposedly helping protect Carter? That was... interesting. And I'm with Carter, I'm not sure I'm buying into it, mainly from Allison's end. Stark's motives, sure, he knows Carter, and can run things his way if Carter stays, so he's got reason to protect Carter. Meh, bears some thinking about.
-And now we have Stark calling after Carter as he runs toward danger... my poor little brain is having far too much fun. Slash goggles working overtime. (Did Thania St John write this? imdb check at commercial...) Of course, once those wear off, J and I are thinking the redial to Stark is a red-herring. Terri wasn't talking to him... or we're way off and Nathan's up to something devious as usual! =D
-Writer check- nope, duh, Charlie Craig, man behind "swinging a lot of things". I knew that. Brain sucks right now.
-Thorne needing explanation- nice- makes a change from having to explain just for Carter. I REALLY think I'm going to enjoy her added dynamic.
-Nathan's mad at Henry for 213? Really? Huh.
-Henry! Oh yeah, switchup! Hell yeah, Hologram Henry! Oh win! Yes, we were a little loud and girly with that whole exchange. Thank God we don't have Steven and Kyle here... we wouldn't live this down.
-Eureka & Makeup- okay, not something I usually hit with this show, but the choice to do so far almost all snake makeup in a CGI heavy show is something that makes my makeup elistist snob heart happy. trying to think of any time I've seen this show do great/nifty makeup instead of CGI... nope not coming. Kudos to whoever's call that was! But the CGI glow on the eyes- didn't need it. Makeup/contacts were totally enough.
-J adds: More makeup transformations! Double kudos! And I don't think we've had makeup instead of CGI ever before on this show. Maybe for the webisodes a bit? But never in the reg episodes!
-Bob: everybody likes me. (Thought we were going to die laughing. Oh sure they do Bob.)
-Note to Allison- just because there's no sun, don't dismiss what Carter's saying. She should remember he's got good ideas. He's smart, even if it's not science smart!
-"You did all that for me?" Oh, teenage girls. She would be flattered.
-Vince/Lucas/Fargo reality show meta- Oh I freakin love this show!
-$25 for Thorne's coffee?? Oh Vince, I love you! And Lupo's on the house... nice!
-Go Jo! Nice exchange with Thorne- I am just loving watching Fisher and her interactions! She has great chemistry with everyone so far! Haven't seen her and Allison really work yet, but I love her with Stark, Carter, and Jo. My three faves!
-J adds: We really have to loose her after only eight episodes? I suspect I'm going to miss having her, but it's still early. Maybe she'll loose her appeal. Especially if she stops shipping N/J. [lol]
-So many degree commericals.... so does the product really have to be in the show? Oh yeah, that rant is coming!
-Jack impatient look at communicator when Stark/Zane babble- great!
-Okay, Zane asking for gun- we almost hit a high point with him there, but it was really all Jo!
-Tossing gun? No, I wanted my Stark with a gun!! Missing hotness! Twitter SARAH got me all psyched for it!
-"Takes a second to warm up" Oh, yeah.... could have mined that further! How often does Jack get a chance to get one up on Stark screwing up?
-Aww, Jack, taking Henry to see sunset. If they marry off Nathan/Allison, I may play with Jack/Henry some... Just not as much fun without the snark. =/ Maybe I'll hop on the threesome instead.
-"I was really worried about you" oh, gorgeous beat. well written, great acting, oh, melts. And great follow up beat with Jo.
-Thorne/Carter by-play.... yeah, I love that woman. She's got style. And a good potential antagonist.
-Museum! For the win! Purple bomb? You know, nothing good comes from the color purple on this show, I remember the pollen flowers in Purple Haze!
Final overall thoughts:
-Last week's observation about Stark having "won" changing his dynamic with Jack? It seems to be playing out now- he doesn't really have a reason to snark at Jack, so he isn't as much. Hmm, Jack's gotta start provoking him!
-My 'ship? Still not looking good. Though the beat with Nathan asking "how's Carter?" Whoa, Jenn and my heads jerked up at that. Works, but the brain went one way real quick and had to bounce back for Jack/Allison argument.
-Still really not happy about no Stark-with-gun moment. Going to pout, and maybe try to get a drawing bunny stuck in
naysu's head so I can at least get art of Stark-with-gun.
-By the way, what's the pun in the title? I get every other axiom/pun for the season, but this one doesn't make sense to me...
-I've been editing too long- Jenn smacked me for the editing note that they could have help a shot longer for continuity during the teaser (well, Jack did go for the phone too quickly, not enough of a reaction beat!) I tried not to type any of those observations, but I've clearly been editing too much lately!
-I'm starting to notice that I really like the episodes Charlie Craig writes (Try Try Again, Sight Unseen and now What About Bob?) I think I'll try to find a script written by him sometime soon to see his style a little closer.
(Also, it's unusual that one of the male writers has the best slash goggle beats, but his eps certainly do! My top three come from the first two listed above.)
And I have to say, outside the cut, this was an awesome episode! That's my Eureka!

Date: 2008-08-06 05:43 am (UTC)In my mind, I keep coming up with scenarios where the whole Nathan/Allison thing is a farce. It's so obvious he's trying to make Jack jealous, right? That's what gets me through the N/A fiasco of '08, as I've dubbed it. At least we have fandom and slash goggles to make the world right.
-By the way, what's the pun in the title? I get every other axiom/pun for the season, but this one doesn't make sense to me...
I don't know about puns but I assumed it was reference to the Bill Murray/Richard Dreyfuss movie "What about Bob?"

Date: 2008-08-06 11:57 am (UTC)That's what I assumed at first too! And it's been a while since I saw the film, but I guess I started overthinking it, because I couldn't really see a connection between the movie and the episode last night. (Shut-in named Bob, I guess.) Dunno, it just missed the mark a little, maybe cuz it's not quite as punny as the others. [shrug]

Date: 2008-08-07 02:45 am (UTC)I completely agree on that. It's great to see someone else who needs an explanation on what the geniuses are talking about besides Jack.
-Note to Allison- just because there's no sun, don't dismiss what Carter's saying. She should remember he's got good ideas. He's smart, even if it's not science smart!
Very often, that's one of my biggest hang-ups with the geniuses in Eureka. They so often tend to dismiss Carter's words when he's actually making a good point. A lot of the time they forget that he was a U.S. Marshal before he joined them, and a person who gets that job is no dummy.
Henry's usally the best about listening to Jack and what he's saying, though he's flubbed up once or twice. Nathan was rather bad about it in the first season, but he's definitely improving (see last week and his "Carter almost articulated a good point" line *bg*). Allison, I think, is the one who's gotten steadily worse.
But I digress.
-My 'ship? Still not looking good.
Mine's not looking good either. Why, oh why, did the writers have to sell me Jack/Allison so well in the first season only to take it away? *pouts*
Though, I will give them kudos for the times when Jack and Allison clash, like in Noche de Suenos or this week. Makes things so much more fun when they're at odds. *bounces*

Date: 2008-08-10 03:11 am (UTC)I would love to see that! Especially since Allison really is getting worse, while Nathan gets better.... which feels odd.
LOL, I may just have to jump ship (pun intended) and head for the threesome option. Since Nathan/Allison doesn't seem to be hitting any speedbumps.... [grumble]

Date: 2008-08-10 11:59 am (UTC)*g* I hear you. Allison needs to get herself back on track and remember that, on some levels, Carter is ten times the genius she is. ;)

Yeah, that's driving me crazy. I keep waiting for the ship to blow up in Allison and Nathan's faces, but it isn't happening. *sighs* Well, maybe in the next episode, if the preview was anything to go by?
